Michael (GizmoCrowd): Your previous Kickstarter campaigns were well received by nearly 2,000 backers. What inspired you to develop IVYCable P6, and how does it improve upon previous versions?
IVYSTER: With the application of high-power fast charging technology in various smartphones, IVYCable, as a mobile accessory, needed to be compatible with and support fast charging. After delivering the first generation of IVYCable, we immediately began developing the PD60W project. Our challenge was to achieve PD60W fast charging within an area the size of a fingertip while ensuring that the temperature during 60W fast charging did not exceed a comfortable level.
This technical challenge was unprecedented and required us to make a breakthrough from 0 to 1. After countless cycles of development, prototyping, validation, and redesigning, we finally overcame this challenge, taking a full two and a half years to create the current IVYCable P6.
Michael: IVYCable P6 offers 60W fast charging and pass-through charging, ensuring users never run out of power. How does this feature work, and why is it a game-changer for modern device users?
IVYSTER: When fast charging (which increases output voltage or current through specific protocols to quickly charge devices like smartphones) is initiated, the core controller and inductor can generate significant heat as power increases, often reaching over 80 degrees Celsius (176°F).
To solve this, we used an aluminum alloy outer shell, one of the best metals for thermal conductivity. However, its compact size meant that if heat management wasn’t handled properly, it could cause burns.
To eliminate the risk of overheating and burns, we independently designed a brand-new fast charging logic that ensures the product does not heat up during fast charging, making IVYCable P6 a safe and efficient charging solution.
Michael: Weighing just 115g, IVYCable P6 is both a charging cable and a power bank in one. Who do you see benefiting most from this ultra-portable, all-in-one power solution?
IVYSTER: In 2020, to support my entrepreneurial journey, my wife worked two part-time jobs. Every day, after finishing her first job, she would rush to her second job, and her phone was almost always low on battery. The power bank she usually relied on often went uncharged because she was too busy to plug it in.
Seeing her disappointment and worry about her phone dying and affecting her second job motivated me to develop a product that would always be ready to go, with a power bank that was always charged and could provide power anytime, anywhere. Thus, in 2021, we launched the first generation of IVYCable.
Additionally, as a portable power bank, IVYCable addresses the need for backup power throughout the day. With a capacity of 3000mAh, if designed properly, it is more than sufficient for users to recharge their phones outdoors.
Based on these two factors, we designed the IVYCable P6 so that during fast charging, the phone charges directly from the wall outlet, making IVYCable P6 essentially a pass-through cable that does not participate in the fast charging process, thus preventing it from heating up.
When used as a power bank, it only boosts the voltage to 5V to charge portable devices, reducing excessive voltage waste and heat generation, maximizing charging efficiency for users while ensuring absolute safety. Achieving this functionality took my team and me two full years.
Michael: Unlike traditional cables, IVYCable P6 features a magnetic, self-folding design inspired by Chinese nunchaku. How did you come up with this concept, and what advantages does it offer users?
IVYSTER: Our initial intention in designing the IVYCable was to help busy people stop worrying about forgetting to charge their phones. With the cable always ready, users can set off at any time, knowing they can charge their devices whenever needed.
We designed the IVYCable to be foldable for easy portability and use, ensuring it remains tidy and space-efficient, whether stored in a pocket or held in hand.
Michael: IVYCable P6 combines durability, fast charging, and compact storage. What’s next for IVYSTER? Are there any future innovations or expansions planned for the IVYCable series?
IVYSTER: IVYSTER’s mission is to start with small things to make life more convenient and smarter. Therefore, the next generation of IVYCable will feature larger capacities and more user-friendly designs.
